Qashqai Rugs

    Qashquai rugs recognized by all-wool construction, strong vivid colors (often red) and their motifs (ie: the crab). The designs are geometric, medallions down the middle and covered with smaller motifs. Coarsely woven (70 - 170 knots/square inch). Qashqai rugs have all wool construction (wool wefts and warps), newer village pieces may have cotton wefts and are generally more coarsely woven.

Khal Mohammadi

    Khal Mohammadi rugs are some of the best present day Afghan weaving. They offer attractive styles, excellent natural dyed wools that deliver consistant beautiful color.

    The design visible on the kilim is made by interweaving the colored weft and warp, creating a flatweave. They can be used in many ways, ie: floor coverings, wall-hangings, draped over furniture, tablecloths, bedspreads or as cushion covers.

We have created this unique collection of Xmas Stockings (for the child at heart) Each of these individual pieces are handmade from Turkish kilim and soumak rugs by local crafts people.     Bokhara rugs now imported from Pakistan. With the new embargo restrictions on rugs made in Iran, Pakistan has become a very important resource. The older Heriz rugs originally persian are now being copied in other countries. (there is no guarantee these are still available and there are always more we have yet to photograph)

Balouch Rugs

    Balouch wool rugs made by tribes from the Province of Baluchestan. Living in tents with no real outside contact the tribesmen tend to their flocks just as they have done for generations. Their rugs are practical woven primarily for warmth. Skilled artisans weave and a single rug can take months to complete. These rugs are woven by women (on horizontal looms, using the Persian knot) Blue and red are the dominant colors with white, ivory, yellow, and orange providing the contrast. see pieces equal in beauty, quality.
