Out-door Garage Market - West 25th Street - NYC

With the temps in the high 50-s we set-up today (Saturday)at the out-door Garage Flea Market and wilbe returning on Sunday (if the weather holds). Met several old friends and made many new acquaintances.Will try to frequent the market when we are in town. Let us know if there is anything specific you would like us to include.

Annual Thanksgiving Antique Show in Syracuse, NY

The winds are blowing us back to the Hester Street Fair located on Hester and Essex Streets.

This local market will be open today from 10-6pm and despite a forecast for winds it will be the perfect day to get out and explore the Lower East Side.

Qashqai Rugs

Qashquai rugs recognized by all-wool construction, strong vivid colors (often red) and their motifs (ie: the crab). The designs are geometric, medallions down the middle and covered with smaller motifs. Coarsely woven (70 - 170 knots/square inch). Qashqai rugs have all wool construction (wool wefts and warps), newer village pieces may have cotton wefts and are generally more coarsely woven.

Khal Mohammadi

Khal Mohammadi rugs are some of the best present day Afghan weaving. They offer attractive styles, excellent natural dyed wools that deliver consistant beautiful color.

AFGHAN RUGS

With the new embargo restrictions on rugs made in Iran, Afghanistan has become a very important resource. We are excited about our present collection of these rugs. (there is no guarantee these are still available and there are always more we have yet to photograph)

KILIM RUGS

The design visible on the kilim is made by interweaving the colored weft and warp, creating a flatweave. They can be used in many ways, ie: floor coverings, wall-hangings, draped over furniture, tablecloths, bedspreads or as cushion covers.

TURKISH RUGS

With the new embargo restrictions on rugs made in Iran, Turkey has become a very important resource. We are excited about our present collection of old turkish rugs. (there is no guarantee these are still available and there are always more we have yet to photograph)

Turkish Delites - we have gone "GREEN"

RUGS BELOW has gone "GREEN" We are offering an assortment of items recycled from Turkish Kilim and Soumak Rugs. ie: from Turkey the original home of Saint Nicholas. We have created this unique collection of Xmas Stockings (for the child at heart) Each of these individual pieces are handmade from Turkish kilim and soumak rugs by local crafts people. Will quickly become a valued family heirloom. With the new embargo restrictions on rugs made in Iran, Turkey has become a very important resource. (there is no guarantee these are still available and there are always more we have yet to photograph)

KAZAK RUGS

With the new embargo restrictions on rugs made in Iran, Pakistan has become a very important resource. Our shipments arrive regularly. (there is no guarantee these are still available and there are always more we have yet to photograph)

TEXTILES

The following images are only a few of what is presently available. Please contact us about anything specific you do not see here. Handmade Chinese needlepoint and aubusson collection. A smaller collection of vintage pieces also available. Wonderful assortment of pillows ie: needlepoint, aubusson and kilim.

HERIZ & BOKHARA RUGS

Bokhara rugs now imported from Pakistan. With the new embargo restrictions on rugs made in Iran, Pakistan has become a very important resource. The older Heriz rugs originally persian are now being copied in other countries. (there is no guarantee these are still available and there are always more we have yet to photograph)

Shiraz Rugs

Mainly tribal variety Often 100% wool (construction and pile)

Balouch Rugs

Balouch wool rugs made by tribes from the Province of Baluchestan. Living in tents with no real outside contact the tribesmen tend to their flocks just as they have done for generations. Their rugs are practical woven primarily for warmth. Skilled artisans weave and a single rug can take months to complete. These rugs are woven by women (on horizontal looms, using the Persian knot) Blue and red are the dominant colors with white, ivory, yellow, and orange providing the contrast. see pieces equal in beauty, quality. (there is no guarantee these are still available and there are always more we have yet to photograph)

Traditional Persian carpets

Classic city rugs offered in an assortment of sizes and colors. (there is no guarantee these are still available and there are always more we have yet to photograph)

High Knot Count Rugs

Many individuals select rugs by the knot count. High knot count rugs offer a distinct quality to the entire experience. ie: Quom, Isfahan, Nain (just a few of the more well-known)

Hamadans, plus

Hamadan is a marketplace for rugs made in hundreds of villages and towns in the vicinity. With the new embargo restrictions on rugs made in Iran these rugs are no longer coming into the country. (there is no guarantee these are still available but there are more we have yet to photograph)

Antique Rugs

A distinctive collection of antique persian rugs. There has been a great interest in the group and once they are gone it is unlikely we will see pieces equal in beauty, quality. Gabbeh/Art Deco

Gabbeh rugs offer a geometric pattern with a plain yet distinctive design. All of the patterns are extremely simple. The designs are uncluttered with large fields, bold stripes and a few geometric human or animal shapes. They may be telling a story, depicting a scene, or conveying an emotion. These are the ideal solution to a limited budget. The Gabbeh style rug is typically woven in a rustic tradition which lends itself perfectly to any rustic or modern style room.
