With the temps in the high 50-s we set-up today (Saturday)at the out-door Garage Flea Market and wilbe returning on Sunday (if the weather holds).   Met several old friends and made many new acquaintances.Will try to frequent the market when we are in town.  Let us know if there is anything specific you would like us to include.

Annual Thanksgiving Antique Show in Syracuse, NY

Despite the forecast for snow, the crowds were out looking to walk off their thanksgiving feast.   We visited with many of our old friends and as always, made new ones.

We have just returned, exhausted and with a much lighter load.  The Fall Brimfield turned out to be quite an adventure.

     

Monday, Sept. 6th Annual Labor Day Antique Show

Wow! Labor Day 2010 is here and we are returning to Scott's Corners in Pound Ridge, NY for the Annual Antiques Show & Farmers Market.  In our regular location right next to the fountain, we will be sharing a wonderful assortment from  9-5.  The forecast is perfect for this annual end of summer event.

as seen on their website:    Welcome to the Hester Street Fair. Located at the corner of Hester and Essex Street, the fair celebrates the culture and rich history of the Lower East Side neighborhood.

At the turn of the century, Hester Street was the site of the busiest outdoor market in New York City:

“There is hardly a square foot of ground in Hester Street that is not covered with people during the day. The whole place seems to be in a state of perpetual motion, and the occasional visitor is apt to have a feeling of giddiness.” NY Times, July 27, 1895.

Today, the Hester Street Fair focuses on curated local goods, food and most importantly, highlights the vibrant spirit of the community. Located at Hester and Essex Streets, the tree-lined site is ideally situated between both F stops (East Broadway/Delancey) and adjacent to Seward park.

Antiques in Veterans Park, Westwood, NJ - Sunday, Aug. 29th, 2010

The skies are clearing and Sunday, August 29th proves to be the perfect day to venture out.  We have made plans to set-up in Veterans Park (in the center of Westwood, a town in Northern Bergen County) there is plenty of ample free parking available.  This free admission show draws thousands of eager buyers so be one of the early ones.  We are setting up at 7am and the excitement will begin at 10:00 am sharp.  Take a ride over and say hello.

And the rains came but so did the customers.  Madison-Bouckville of 2010 was certainly a mixture of weather conditions.  Cool temperatures and intermittent showers created conditions for the true adventurous spirit (and there were many).

    



 
 
 
 

DECORATING WITH ORIENTAL RUGS

Rugs are versatile, functional and serve a wide variety of purposes. They can tie a space together, define separate sections within a larger space and even serve as a link between rooms. They can also add a touch of warmth and color to your floor. There are no real rules for choosing a rug, much of the selection is based on your own taste and sense of style. Try using different patterns with a common palette. Consider their location keeping in mind general wear factors. Here are a few size guidelines. Room size rugs should leave a border of 18" to 24" on all sides. Dining room rugs should measure at least 4' longer and wider than the dining room table, this way chairs remain on the rug when pushed away from the table. Hallway runners should be approximately 2" to 4" narrower and 18" to 24" shorter than the hallway.
